Notes:
More than 300 Indigenous deaths in custody have occurred since a royal commission into the tragedy over two decades ago, according to the Australian Institute of Criminology (AIC).In Deaths in Custody in Australia to 30 June 2011, the AIC reported that while the number of Indigenous deaths in custody had been trending down in the past decade, a concerning new trend was seeing the number of deaths rising, with 14 in 2009-10 ? equal to the highest on record. Also some statistics from Victoria police on domestic assaults.
