Legal practitioners have to be very careful in financial dealings with their clients. The rules try to prevent lawyers from receiving a material gain (besides their legal fees) because of their relationship with the client. This means a conflict of interest can still exist even if the gain by way of a gift or loan is made with the client's consent. ; Includes 8.1 & 8.2 of the Law Council of Australia's Model Rules
