Committal proceedings are an integral part of criminal justice. The present procedure arises out of a review consucted in 1986 but, at the time of writing, committals are again under scrutiny both by the Pathfinder Project and by a Working Party established by the Attorney-General, Jan Wade. Whether or not we are to get a new model is a moot point
